Amongst other things I am a working actor in Singapore and so I see the casting notices that go out in Facebook and Telegram groups - the way they talk about older people is hilarious. The stereotype of the elderly 'auntie' and 'uncle' abounds and is often coupled with words like 'elderly' and 'frail'. My dad's 72, he plays golf and tennis every week, goes for a twice-weekly run and takes four holidays a year to exotic locations but look at a casting notice for a 72 year old and you'd think he should have one foot in the grave! The problem for brands and advertisers is older people are wiser, more experienced and, yes, even cynical. They are less prone to hype, buzzwords and BS so the products and experiences offered to them better be good because they won't suffer fools gladly!
